My name is Kelli Lynn Market. I am a junior at the University of Toledo studying Adult/Young Adolescent Education with a focus in Integrated Social Studies. My experience at Sandusky High School in Sandusky, Ohio inspired me to want to become like the teachers I had, who were not only teachers, but also mentors, coaches, and advisors. The educators I had made subjects come alive and demonstrated their relevance to modern society. One very notable influence that sealed my decision to teach was my AP U.S. History teacher, who would bring multimedia to the classroom to convey historical ideas, theories, and events through visuals, skits, movies, and field trips. This extra push made us students interested in a subject that many students find uninteresting. I want to continue that teacher’s legacy by showing students why history is so integral to learn and how it can be connected to the “important” subjects such as Math, English, and Science.
My experience thus far in teaching and leadership roles has confirmed that I will become the teacher that not only I strive to be, but also my students need me to be. I have a vast interest in government and politics, and have served as Vice Chairman of UT College Republicans and as a Senator in UT’s Student Government. I am currently a member of Epsilon Alpha Pi, a coed education fraternity that focuses on professional development and volunteer teaching opportunities. I have also coordinated Vacation Bible School at my home parish for a tri-parish community that served roughly 200 students ages 5-10. Lastly, my love for teaching has been sparked by living at Camp Frontier and being a camp counselor for Boy Scouts ages 12-18 and teaching a sailing curriculum consisting of marine safety, emergency preparedness, CPR and First Aid, sailing, and boat care and maintenance.
I am very excited to continue the pursuance of my teaching career!
